Instructable Infographic Poster

Week 3 (19/2/2024)

We are required to design an A3 infographic poster for a recipe taken from
We need to select one video, breakdown and chunk the preparation and cooking process into an
instructable poster. I had selected Sister make Sardinian pleated potato filled raviolli called culurgiones.

fig. 1.0 ; Selected Video

I tried to jot down every steps of the making process from the video.

I try start searching references , these three design is the closest I can get to a design concept.

I sketched out my design roughly based on the references that I choose then I show it to Mr. Shamshul. He likes all design because it looks nicely and clear. But he mentioned that maybe someone will distracted by the step flow. But after asking few of my friends , they prefer the third one ,so I go for the third sketch.

PROGRESSION

Firstly, I use Pen Tools draw out one culurgione in Adobe illustrator based on my sketch.

fig. 1.6 ; First Progression

After that I draw a beige colour shape behind the culurgione .

fig. 1.7 ; Second Progression

After that , I draw a hand serve as a plate and also add one more culurgiones on plate just like my first sketch.

fig. 1.8 ; Third Progression

I draw a beige rectangle and red flag.

fig. 1.9 ; Fourth Progression

I use Type Tool to type out the full food name and put "how to make" on it. I also go to Effect > Stylize > Drop Shadow to let the rectangle more obvious.

fig. 1.10 ; Fifth Progression

I add a black rectangle frame and place the culurgiones serve as a plate that I create at bottom right corner just like my third sketch.

fig. 1.11 ; Sixth Progression

I started use Pen Tool to draw out All the tool , ingredient and use Type tool type out step description of each step.

fig. 1.12 ; Seventh Progression

fig. 1.13 ; Eighth Progression

fig. 1.14 ; Ninth Progression

fig. 1.15 ; Tenth Progression

fig. 1.16 ; Eleventh Progression

fig. 1.17 ; Twelfth Progression

fig. 1.18 ; Thirteenth Progression

After done creating all the step and elements, I started figuring out what background should I put.

fig. 1.19 ; Overall design without background

At first , I put a single colour as my background

fig. 1.19 ; Fourteenth Progression

After that , I realised there's nothing represent who's make this recipe ,then I go to youtube and saw this youtube channel logo , and I decide put this logo at my right corner.

fig. 1.20 ; Fifteenth Progression

I noticed that the title background colour is similar to the background colour, so I changed the title background colour to a darker colour and then the font to white then shaded it to make the entire title stand out more

fig. 1.21 ; Sixteeth Progression

Although all the element is done , but I think something is missing ,so i put a wood texture in front the background colour . Below is my first outcome :

fig. 1.22 ; First Outcome

But I feel that my step was doesn't clear enough so I rearrange all the step and add a stroke there to separate the step clearly. Below is my second outcome :

fig. 1.23 ; Second Outcome

Lecturer's Feedback:
The poster background was too light so it make the elements doesn't pop up. The element graphic also can be improved like adding shadow and highlight.

I add a light color rectangle with wood background to have a contract view , then i try to make gradient inside there.Beside , I also try to add more shadow and highlight in my each elements. Finally , this is my final outcome :
