INSTRUCTION

Task 2

For task 2 we need to assess, investigate, document and analyse the existing art / design work we selected in Task 1.We need to study the design principles found in that work, as well as the size, placement, purpose, effectiveness of the design in relation to the UNSDG goal that we have chosen.

fig. 1.0 ; Older Really Can Mean Wiser

Artist's name : Christopher Silas Neal

Date : Oct 2017

PHRASE 1 : OBSERVATION

In the picture, the main focus is a young's profile shadow against a surface. Instead of a brain inside his head, there are flowers and leaves. As for visual elements, the upper half of this floral depiction appears lively, with blooming flowers and lush green leaves, while the lower half shows withered flowers and drooping leaves. Overall the design is simple and straightforward, it's like saying our minds have both thriving and struggling parts, just like the blooming and withering elements in the image.

PHRASE 2 : ANALYSIS

For this poster design is symmetrically balanced - although the author has placed the two contrast designs but it show on the left and right sides,so it creating a symmetrical balance between the two and therefore creating a visual equilibrium. The emphasis is on the central young's face shadow, the vibrant blooming flowers are juxtaposed with the withered flowers, there is a strong contrast in both colour and design, the first half of the flower depiction is full of colour in contrast to the second half which is already dull and drab (contrast). It also using young's black shadow as a background to let the things more come out . Lastly, we can see that the author has used flat illustration style way to draw out flowers and leaves as pictorial symbol to represent our brains , tree roots represent our brainstem, emphasizing the importance of cultivating mental health in the midst of internal struggles.

PHRASE 3 : INTERPRETENTION

fig. 1.1 ; The trouble with tylenol pregnancy

Artist's name : Christopher Silas Neal

Date : Sept 2016

fig. 1.2 ; The impact of Exercise of mental health

Artist's name : Bilal Mazhar

Date : Jun 2023

The illustration style of these images is simple and straightforward, using clean lines and basic shapes. This is what we call flat illustration, where everything looks neat and easy to understand. This graphic design trend blew up in 2020 and is around to stay. Brands are going crazy for flat illustrations in all kinds of visual communication for apps, websites, editorial illustrations, and beyond (Aparaschivei.L,2022). Instead of using detailed drawings, it conveys the message in a simple way. This style is perfect for expressing ideas in a straightforward way, using minimal characters and symbols to tell a story or convey a message without any confusion. Although each image is different, such as having a different theme or subject matter, since these types of designs are generally less complex, each image is able to reflect the message that the author is trying to convey.
