FLIP CLASSROOM

Reflection

Week 1 (5/2/2024)

During the first class, Mr. Shamsul had informed us that each group need to prepare for the flip class presentation according to the topic given each week. Each topic  will presented by every group during lecture time . Our group is group 3 and be assigned to prepare flip topic 1 (Different Type of infographic & Online Tools) on week 2.

After ended the class,we had a discussion at Whatsapp to divide the work then we started to prepare our own part. Below is our presentation slide :

Week 2 (12/2/2024)

Every group presented their topic today and the presentation topic is Types of Infographic. We are the last group present ,so before we even started presenting we looked at other people's present content and examples. But Mr.Shamsul had mentioned that not just putting the example and read the text ,we need to explain more about the example we choose.

The presentation consists of three parts: visual, content, and knowledge. We also introduced different types of infographics to everyone, including statistical infographic, informational infographic, timeline infographic, process infographic, geographic infographic, comparison infographic, hierarchical infographic, and list infographic.

From today's class, I gained a better understanding that an infographic combines information and graphics, as each group showed different examples. Infographics are intended to present information, data, and knowledge clearly and quickly. Therefore, each group now has a basic understanding of how to present our flip topic presentation.

INDIVIDUAL TASK

For individual task, we are required using free online infographic tool and re-design one poorly constructed infographic poster through your own experimentation with the selected tool. Honestly , it is hard to find a poorly infographic poster because I think all the image was it all goes through a lot of stuffing and modification, and the ones that are put online are usually. Below is the poorly infographic poster that I choose:

fig. 1.2 ; Poorly infographic that i choose

Why I choose this poster ?
    • Poster design doesn't catch people eyeball
    • Use one colour for whole poster design
    • Too simple, not special

Which part I'm going to improve
    • Use appealing colour combos and graphic
    • Understand topic and enlarge the key point

After all group done their presentation, Mr.Shamsul had brief our group for the flip topic 2 which is Saul Wurman's L.A.T.C.H Principles. We need to deliver flip class presentation next class.

Fortunately, our group was very efficient. We also had a discussion for the next flip topic which is L.A.T.C.H after class ended then we started to divide the work and started to prepare our own part. Below is our presentation slide :

    Week 3 (19/2/2024)

We are the second group presented our flip class today. Through this session, I understood that L.A.T.C.H Principles is an effective method to organize and categorize information. It consisted 5 principles which are location, alphabet, time, category and hierarchy.

After preparing this presentation, I have a deep understanding on L.A.T.C.H principles. I started to plan how am I going to design my exercise 2 and what information I need to include for this exercise. Mr.Shamsul said that our presentation was improved at explanning the example more than reading the text.

After this session, Mr.Shamsul and Mr.Fauzi introduced us the coming up lecturer about the Miller's Law Chunking principle. After the simple explanation by our lecture, we were informed to start searching info to prepare presentation for next week.

After we ended the class, our group also start to divide the task. Below is our presentation:

    Week 4 (27/2/2024)

Today , we also the second group to presenting our topic. Our flip topic is Chunking Principles of Saul Wurman's. From our and others group presentation, I more understood that chunking is a term referring to the process of taking individual pieces of information (chunks) and grouping them into larger units. Chunking allows people to take smaller bits of information and combine them into more memorable wholes. They are few effective chunking techniques which are practice, look for connections, associate and incorporate other memory strategies.

Mr.Fauzi shared us the coming up lecturer about the Manuel Lime's 9 Directives Manifesto. After the simple explanation by our lecture, all group were informed to prepare their presentation for next week. This was the last flip presentation.

    Week 5 (05/03/2024)

Today is the last flip presentation and last lecture class. We are the third group to present. I had learned about Manuel Lime's 9 Directives Manifesto. It is a set of rules to follow in order to create a good information visualization design. "Information Visualization is the use of computer-supported, interactive, visual representations of abstract data to amplify cognition." -- Ben Shneiderman, Stuart K. Card and Jack D. Mackinlay. Below is our group presentation slide:

The other group presentation was also detailed and well prepared for us to understand what is 9 Directives Manifesto. However, the example they found was good enough to illustrate all of the 9 directives for information visualizations.
